ROMANIA BIRD FLU
A farmer-s wife cries in the yard of her farm after vets took her domestic birds, as culling continues in the quarantined village of Ceamurlia de Jos, 350km southeast of Bucharest, 13 October 2005. Vets are using a plastic container to asphyxiate the birds with carbon dioxide ( CO2 ) gas before burning the carcasses. Ceamurlia village was quarantined after three farm ducks were confirmed to be infected with bird flu. Laboratory tests in Bucharest had established the presence of bird flu antibodies in the ducks, Agriculture Minister Gheorghe Flutur said today, as declaring state of emergency in the affected area.
