FIJI-RATU MARA FUNERAL
A 360-strong procession made up of members of Fiji-s armed forces precede the cortege carrying carrying the body of the late President Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara through the streets of Suva to Government House as tens of thousands lined the route, 28 April 2004, to lay in state until his funeral on Friday. Ratu Mara, a paramount chief and the Pacific nation-s founding prime minister, died on 18 April, aged 83. In Polynesian and Melanesian tradition sitting is common in the presence of a chief as it is regarded as offensive to have one-s head higher than a chief. AFP PHOTO/Bruce SOUTHWICK
