SAFRICA-MUSIC-FASSIE-FUNERAL
Bongani, the son of South African pop diva Brenda Fassie (on picture), is comforted as he walks behind the hearse containg her remains after a service in her home township of Langa, Cape Town, 22 May 2004. President Thabo Mbeki joined 10,000 fans in a packed stadium on Saturday to bid a last farewell to South African pop diva Brenda Fassie at funeral services that briefly turned into a mob scene. Nine people were taken to hospital with minor injuries when mourners broke through a security barrier to get closer to Fassie-s gold-colored coffin, police said. Police managed to calm the crowd that packed the stadium in Langa, a township of Cape Town, where Fassie was born and shot to fame at the age of 19 with her first big hit "Weekend Special."
