Consumer goods giant Sara Lee Corp. named Brenda Barnes the new chief executive 10 February and announced it would spin off or sell several businesses in a move to become more "tightly focused." The Chicago-based firm said it would will spin off its 4.5 billion USD apparel business, and sell three other business, its European packaged meats unit, a direct retail unit and a US coffee retail division. These units bring in some 40 percent of Sara Lee revenues.This comes on the heels on an announcement last week that Sara Lee was shedding its European apparel unit.
