BRAZIL-US-VIOLENCE-STANG

(L to R) Brazilians, Rayfran das Neves Sales, Amair Freijoli da Cunha and Clodaldo Carlos Batista are shown by the Federal Police for the first time together, 22 February 2005, during a press conference in Altamira, state of Para in northern Brazil. Rayfram, Amair and Clodaldo are accused for the murder of U.S. born nun Dorothy Stang, last 12 February, which forced authorities to take action over lawlessness in Amazonia. Stang, a 74-year-old missionary, had spent decades working with the poor in Para state. At least three other killings in recent days -- two peasant leaders and a farmer -- have also been blamed on land grabbing by groups who force small farmers off their land to create huge ranches.
