A US Army Apache attack helicopter from the 1-501 Attack, 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division, fly over an army convoy of heavy trucks on an early morning patrol 24 July 2003 over southern Baghdad. Many attacks have been launched on army vehicles on this road, the attacks have decreased since the Apaches have stepped up their flights. Apache helicopters fly multiple daily patrols over Iraq, protecting army convoys and providing a quick response force when ground units need backing up.
