HAITI-URUGUAY-UN-PEACEKEEPERS
IN HAITI, URUGUAYANS PATROL STREETS AND MOUNTAINS AND STOP LYNCHINGS: A Haitian schoolboy walks by Uruguayan UN Peacekeepers patroling a street 04 March, 2005, in Les Cayes in southern Haiti. Uruguayan peacekeepers numbering 572 troops are charged with maintaining the peace in an area of some 4,800 square kilometers in southeastern Haiti. Battalion Commander Col. Felicio de los Santos reports that the troops have saved 10 people from lynching and are reducing their breakfast rations to be able to feed 88 children at a school in the Les Cayes poor neighborhood of Savan.
