This courtroom sketch made 12 January 2005 shows Djamel Beghal, a 39-year-old French national born in Algeria, was described by state prosecutors during the six-week trial as the operational mastermind of a radical Islamist cell based outside Paris that had contacts across Europe A Paris criminal court 15 March 2005 sentenced Beghal to the maximum 10 years in prison for running a terror cell that plotted to attack the US embassy in the French capital.
