CZECH-AUSTRIA-KLESTIL
New Austrian Ambassadress to the Czech Republic Margot Klestil-Loeffler, the widow of former Austrian president Thomas Klestil, poses 30 March 2005 at Prague Hradcany Castle with Czech President Vaclav Klaus after she officially handed over her credentials to him. Klestil-Loeffler headed a section at the Austrian Foreign Ministry. She occupied high diplomatic posts earlier, however was never an ambassador before. Margot Klestil-Loeffler, who graduated from Slavonic studies, decided to take the diplomatic post in Prague after the unexpected death of her husband, who died at the beginning of July 2004, only two days before the end of his second election term. Close historical relations between Czechs and Austrians, who lived in the same state until 1918, are also reflected in the fact that the father of Thomas Klestil was born in Janovka near Nove Hrady, south Bohemia.
