IRAQ-KAZEMIYAH-ASHURA-40TH


Shiite Muslim women and a child walk through a gap in cement blocks manned by Iraqi soldiers placed across a main thoroughfare leading into the Kazemiya district of Baghdad where many faithful are flocking to mark the Arbaeen at the Imam Musa al-Kazem shrine, 31 March 2005. Shiite Muslims who are able to have made the pilgrimage to the southern city of Karbala for the Arbaeen, which falls today. Arbaeen ends the traditional 40-day mourning period commemorating the death of the Prophet Mohammed-s grandson Imam Hussein in 680 AD at the battle of Karbala. AFP PHOTO/KARIM SAHIB
