IRAQ-KAZEMIYAH-ASHURA-40TH
Shiite Muslims take part in self flagellation during the lamentation ceremony at the Kazemiyah mosque 31 March 2005, in Baghdad, the site of the shrine of Imam Musa al-Kazem. Shiite Muslim pilgrims who were not able to go to the southern city of Karbala for the Arbaeen, which falls today, gathered at the Imam Kazem shrine instead. Arbaeen ends the traditional 40-day mourning period commemorating the death of the Prophet Mohammed-s grandson Imam Hussein in 680 AD at the battle of Karbala. AFP PHOTO/ALI AL-SAADI
