CYPRUS-TRNC-TALAT
Mehmet Ali Talat, the 53-year-old prime minister of the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), recognised only by Ankara, flashes the Victory sign after winning the Turkish Cypriot presidential elections to replace veteran leader Rauf Denktash 17 April 2005 in the Turkish part of divided Nicosia. Talat, a supporter of reunification, said after the election commission announced that he secured more than 55 percent of the vote that he "holds out a hand to the Greek Cypriot administration."
