The French Football Federation (FFF) appealed the sanction given to Barthez for spitting on a Moroccan referee, Wyad-OM 12 February in a friendly match at Casablanca. Barthez was penalized with a three-month suspension, instead of the six required by the rules, and his club fined 1,000 euros.
