RUSSIA-BELARUS-PROTEST

Dozens of "Yabloko" and SPS (Union of Right-wing Forces) demanded freedom for Russian demonstrators who were arrested in Minsk during an opposition rally marking the 19th anniversary of the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Ukraine. About 500 people tried to march 26 April 2005 on the presidential palace to hand in a petition calling for Belarussian children to be allowed to go abroad for medical treatment.
