JAPAN-IRAQ-HOSTAGE

Tokyo scrambled for more information on the reported abduction of a Japanese national in Iraq after Islamic militants said they have taken a hostage following an ambush on a convoy leaving a US base. Tokyo native Akihito Saito was apparently taken hostage by an Al-Qaeda linked group after an evening gunfight in western Iraq where he was travelling with more than ten others in vehicles, the foreign ministry said.
