CINEMA-CANNES-FESTIVAL-KILOMETRE ZERO-KIRIK-SALEEM-BILGIN
Iraqi-Kurd actor Nazmi Kirik kisses the ground in front of Iraqi-Kurd director Hiner Saleem and Turkish-Kurd actress Belcim Bilgin (R) as they arrive for the projection of their film "Kilometre Zero" 12 May 2005 during the 58th edition of the International Cannes Film Festival. "Kilometre Zero", by Iraqi Kurd filmmaker Hiner Saleem, is the first Iraqi film to be selected for the official Cannes competition since the festival-s inception in 1946, generating a buzz of its own. The Cannes film festival, the world-s top showcase of cinema, started 11 May with a slew of veteran auteurs lining up for the prestigious Palme d-Or prize, and Hollywood muscling in to promote this year-s blockbusters.
