Basque regional government president Juan Jose Ibarretxe (L) congratulates the new president of the Basque regional Parliament moderate nationalist Izaskun Bilbao (R), after her election 23 May 2005 in the northern Spanish Basque city of Vitoria. Bilbao has been elected after ten rounds of voting that started on 16 May 2005. Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) decided to change their candidate Atutxa in order to unblock the stalemate between Atutxa and the Socialist candidate Miguel Buen of the last week.
