INDIA-NAVY-WARSHIP-LAUNCH
An Indian worker uses an oxy-acetylene cutter to slice off a support on the stealth frigate Sahayadri during its launch at the Mazgaon docks in Mumbai, 27 May 2005. Sahayadri, the 3rd stealth frigate in the Shivalik class is due to enter Indian Navy-s service from 2007. Designed as multi-purpose frigates, these 142.5 metres long and 16.90 metres wide ships displace 4,900 tonnes and are capable of speeds in excess of 30 knots. The weapon fit will be a mix of Indian, western and Russian systems having both air defence and anti submarine warfare capabilities with two helos-advanced helicopters on board equipped with long range/early warning radars and indigenous Sonar and and Chaff launchers.
