An Ethiopian Federal Police pick-up truck patrols 09 June 2005 in the streets of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The European Union-s executive commission urged the Ethiopian government to show restraint Thursday after recent deadly unrest in the country, and called for a negotiated compromise to end tensions. Voicing "deep concerns" about recent violence in the Ethiopian capital, EU development commissioner Louis Michel spoke with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to urge "tolerance and restraint on the use of force in response to recent unrest following disagreements over the electoral process."
