FRANCE-STORE-SAMARITAINE
Monique Daniele (C), the leader of the landmark Paris department store La Samaritaine CFTC (right wing) trade union, is pictured 15 June 2005 in Paris, as the department store closes for several years. The department store closes today, perhaps forever, after inspectors found that the century-old building by the Seine river falls catastrophically short of fire safety norms. In the last 15 years there has been a drastic decline in the store-s sales.
