South African newly appointed Deputy-President, Phumzile Mlambo-Ncguka, shares a light moment with another new appointee, Lindiwe Hendriks (R), newly appointed Minister for Minerals and Energy, at a swearing in ceremony at Parliament 23 June 2005. South Africa-s first woman Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka took the oath of office on Thursday amid questions over her possible ties to brewing scandals, and immediately asked the press to grant her a "honeymoon." One day after she was appointed by President Thabo Mbeki, Mlambo-Ngcuka was sworn in by Chief Justice Pius Langa at a ceremony held at the president-s state offices in Cape Town.
