FRANCE-ITER-NUCLEAR-RESEARCH-MODEL
European commissioner for research, Polish Janez Potonik (L) walks with director of the department for fusion research Michel Chatelier 03 July 2005 at the experimental nuclear fusion reactor Tore Supra, in Saint-Paul-les-Durance. The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is a 10-billion-euro nuclear fusion reactor to be built in southern France that reportedly will produce no greenhouse gas emissions and low levels of radioactive waste. The six ITER partners, the European Union, the United States, Russia, Japan, South Korea and China, agreed on Cadarache after Japan withdrew its bid to host the 30-year project.
