On the 80th anniversary of the Turkish republic on the ruins of the Ottoman empire, a young Turkish women displays a medal of honour given to the liberation war veterans (1919-1922) led by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Controvery is once again high this year during the national day because of an official reception given October 29 by the head of state Ahmet Necdet Sezer who refused to invite the veiled spouses of MP's the governing islamist-leaning Justice and development (AKP) party.
