US-WEATHER-HURRICANE EMILY
This National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) image received 14 July 2005 shows Hurricane Emily. Hurricane Emily lashed Grenada and headed west 14 July, packing 90-mile-per-hour (150-kilometer-per-hour) winds and gathering strength, the US National Hurricane Center said.."Emily is expected to produce total rain accumulations of four to eight inches (10-20 centimeters) across portions of the Windward Islands and northern Venezuela and the Netherlands Antilles, with possible isolated amounts of 12 inches (30 centimeters) over mountainous terrain. These rains could produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides," the center warned. At 1200 GMT, the storm-s center was about 85 miles (135 kilometers) west-northwest of Grenada, it said. "Some strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours," the center added. AFP PHOTO/NOAA =GETTY OUT=
