CHINA-TIBET-RELIGION-MANI STONES
A pile of Mani stones sits atop Kambala Pass, at 4794 meters above sea level, as clouds drift over the mountain top, 05 August 2005, on the road from Lhasa to Gyantse overlooking Yamdrok-Tso Lake. Mani stones are derived from Tibet-s aboriginal animistic Bon religion, which believes everything on earth has a soul, and are usually found on mountain passes, crossroads, lakesides or by monasteries, where the faithful will walk around the mound reciting prayers and adding a stone. If stones are not available, skulls, horns, wool or even human hair are used. AFP PHOTO/Frederic J. BROWN
