CHINA-TIBET-RELIGION-POLITICS
Pingla, a senior cleric at the Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, who like many Tibetans has only one name, speaks 06 August 2005 of the 16-year-old boy handpicked by the Dalai Lama a decade ago to be the Panchen Lama, "we have never accepted the little boy recognized by the Dalai Lama," adding "he was chosen in violence of religious policy and historical ritual". Tashilhunpo Monastery in Tibet-s second largest city was built in 1447 and since the Mongol sponsorship of the Gelugpa order, Shigatse has been the seat of the Panchen Lama, presently the one chosen by Beijing-s Communist government.
