JAMAICA-VENEZUELA-PATTERSON-CHAVEZ
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (R) receives a painting from Jamaica-s Prime Minister Percival Patterson (L) during an exchange of presents upon his arrival 23 August, 2005 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The United States on Tuesday distanced itself from a call by prominent religious broadcaster Pat Robertson for Washington to assassinate Chavez. Robertson is a former presidential candidate who strongly supports US President George W. Bush and rallied his followers to vote for Bush in the November election. US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld denied that the Pentagon has considered assassinating Chavez. AFPSIMON GARCIA-PRESIDENCIA
