INDIA-RELIGION-GANESH-FISH
Indian devotees are surrounded by shoals of dead fish as they attempt to push an idol of Hindu God Lord Ganesh into deeper water at Kankaria Lake in Ahmedabad,18 September 2005. Some 2000 idols were immersed in the lake in the western Indian city 17 September, as part of celebrations for the end of the ten day festival dedicated to the Hindu God of prosperity and wisdom. The immersion of the idols combined with recent weather has according to local meterologists brought about a decline in the levels of oxygen in the lake leading to the deaths of the fish.
