This 19 September, 2005 NOAA satellite image shows Tropical Storm Rita(C). Rita is located southeast of Nassau in the Bahamas. The southern tip of Florida braced for a potential hurricane on Monday as Tropical Storm Rita neared while farther east in the Atlantic, Hurricane Philippe brewed, the National Hurricane Center said. As of early Monday, Rita was some 380 kilometers (235 miles) southeast of Nassau in the Bahamas and 740 kms (460 miles) east-southeast of Key West, Florida, and heading westwards at 20 kph (nine mph), it said.
A hurricane warning was posted for all of the Florida Keys, from Ocean Reef to the Dry Tortugas, as well as for islands in the Bahamas, the Center said. Rita was packing sustained winds of 95 kph (60 mph), To the right of the image is Hurricane Philippe, located near the Leeward Islands, which was heading northwards around 14 kph (7 mph), with winds up around 120 kph (75 mph).
