FRANCE-TRANSPORT-SEA-FERRY
people wait for the departure of a ferry bound for Tunisia, late 22 September 2005 in Toulon harbour on strike, southern France. Workers for the French state-owned Corsica-Mediterranean shipping company (SNCM) said late Thursday that they would continue their strike over privatization plans for another three days, and some passengers had to be transferred to other vessels. More than 1,000 travellers booked on the Algiers-bound ferry Mediterranee, who were stranded for two nights due to the strike, were put on other ships in Marseille and the port of Toulon, 50 kilometres (30 miles) to the east on the Mediterranean coast, according to Jean Leonetti, an SMCM official.
