PERU-ARCHAEOLOGY-MOCHE-SACRIFICES
A feline-shaped ornament in copper and gold is displayed at the ceremonial complex of Huaca de la Luna - open for the public since August 2005 in Trujillo, in Peru-s northern coast, 27 September 2005. Studies reveal that this ornament was used by "chacchadores" (coca leaves chewers), who officiated in sacred ceremonies, on their backs. Iconographic murals at the site depict the human sacrifices made by the Moche civilizaton, settled in the area between the years 200 BC and 600 AD, to honour or appease the Gods in many cases to prevent different natural disasters.
