CHINA-QINGAHI-NOMADS
Tibetan nomads do there daily chores outside their ramshackle abode on the edges of Tso Ngonpo lake in China-s far west Qinghai province, 13 September 2005. China-s settlement and land redistribution policies which began in the late 1980s, have been intensified under Beijing-s current campaign to exploit and develop the sparsely populated western regions of Tibet, Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai which has led many nomad families to lead a more settled life, but critics say that not only is China wiping out an unique way of life in favour of its obsession with economic development, but that many nomads often do not benefit from the policies meant to improve their lot.
