The former Republican head of the House of Representatives spent less than 30 minutes at the sheriff-s office, in the Houston suburbs, during which he posted a 10,000 USD bail bond, was fingerprinted and photographed, officials said. A Texas court issued an arrest warrant for him on 19 October, part of the formal procedure before he makes a first court appearance on 21 October. Delay, a close ally of US President George W. Bush, was initially accused last month of conspiracy to violate state election law by diverting corporate donations to candidates for the Texas state legislature.
