Ducks swim in Locon, Northern France, 25 October 2005. The current bird flu outbreak, which first surfaced in 2003, has now reached Europe with Romania and Turkey. France has imposed a ban on the outdoor rearing of poultry across about one quarter of the country as part of measures in a worldwide effort to contain the bird flu strain, Agriculture Minister Dominique Bussereau said today.
