Tanzania-s opposition party flag flies 28 October 2005 at half-mast at the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM-Revolutionary Party-CHADEMA) headquarters following the death of its presidential running candidate Jumbe Rajab Jumbe 26 October. Elections set to be held this weekend on mainland Tanzania have been postponed until December 18 due to the death of an opposition vice-presidential candidate, the national electoral board announced late 27 October. Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa 28 October appealed for calm on Zanzibar as voters on the volatile archipelago got set for weekend elections amid heightened fears of political violence.
