The British government announced 02 November 2005 that Blunkett, a key political ally of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, resigned Wednesday from the cabinet amid controversy over his business affairs. It was the second time in less than a year that Blunkett, who was works and pensions secretary, has quit Blair-s cabinet, after he was forced to resign last December as home secretary.
