Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami speaks on the opening day of the conference on "Islam in a Pluralistic World" in Vienna, 14 November 2005. Security in the Austrian capital was tight 14 Novemebr as authorities prepared for the opening of a conference on "Islam in a Pluralistic World", attended by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai. Some 600 special forces agents and police commandos were deployed, and access to the Hofburg, the seat of the Austrian presidency and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, was restricted.
