Palestinians rush to have their passports checked before entering the Rafah terminal at the border between Gaza and Egypt, 26 November 2005, when the transit route opens up the world to the Gaza Strip-s 1.3 million largely impoverished residents. The Rafah border terminal between the Gaza Strip and Egypt opened to Palestinians today, allowing access from the tiny territory to the outside world for the first time in almost three months. Queues of excited Palestinians had been lining up since the early morning to await the opening of the crossing, which allows them to leave Gaza without running the gauntlet of Israeli security checks.
