MOROCCO-PRISON-TAZMAMART-GRAVES
(FILES) File photo dated 06 October 2000 shows the prison of Tazmamart, a former barracks in the eastern Middle Atlas mountains 60 kilometers from the city of Errachidia, Morocco, center and symbol of the political repression of the "Years of Lead" in Morocco. Thirty-two graves were recently identified inside the prison with the aid of military files by the Instance Equite and Reconciliation (IER), a commission established in 2003 by King Mohammed VI to investigate violations of human rights against opponents of the regime of his father, King Hassan II, between 1960 and 1999. Fifty-eight military officers linked to the failed coups d-etat of 1971 and 1972 were imprisoned in Tazmamart, known popularly as the "Dying Place of the Atlas", according to escaped eye-witnesses.
