FRANCE-JEWS-HANNUKAH-RELIGION
The Grand Rabbi of Paris, David Messas (R), lights the first candle of the eight-day Jewish "festival of the lights", or Hannukah, in a public ceremony on the Champ de Mars at the Eiffel Tower (REAR) attended by about 400 people 25 December 2005. By calendrical coincidence, it was the first time in 15 years that the festival, whose timing is determined by the Hebraic luni-solar calendar, fell on Christmas day.
