US-JUSTICE-ENRON-CAUSEY
Enron former chief accountant Richard Causey (C) arrives at the Bob Casey Federal Courts Building in Houston with his wife Bitsy (L) and attorney Reid Weingarten 28 December 2005. Causey, who had been charged with more than 30 counts of conspiracy and wire and securities fraud, pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the financial meltdown of the energy company. He agreed instead to plea to one count of securities fraud which carries a maximum penalty of seven years and a mininum of five years in jail. The plea agreement could have a major impact on the cases against his co-defendants, former chairman Kenneth Lay and former president Jeffrey Skilling and is likely to delay the trial scheduled to begin 17 January.
