(FILES) Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and former vice-president Abdel halim Khaddam (L) attend the closing session of the Arab summit in Beirut 28 March 2002. Syria-s ruling Baath party said 01 January 2006 that it had expelled the former vice-president, who implicated the regime in the murder of Lebanese ex-premier Rafiq Hariri, in a wide-ranging interview with the satellitte channel Al-Arabiyya from his exile home in Paris.
