Syria confirmed that it had received a request from the UN probe into the murder of former Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri to interview President Bashar al-Assad, a Syrian official said today. The UN probe into Hariri-s February murder in a Beirut bomb blast, which has already implicated a number of Lebanese and Syrian officials, said 02 January it had asked to interview Assad and Foreign Minister Faruq Shara. The move followed declarations by former vice president Abdel Halim Khaddam that Assad had threatened Hariri a few months before his murder. AFP PHOTO/LOUAI BESHARA
