(FILES) German newly-elected President Johannes Rau reviews a detachment of Republican Guards in the yard of the Elysee presidential palace 27 July 1999 before meeting with his French counterpart Jacques Chirac for a working luncheon. Former German president Johannes Rau, 75, died Friday after a long illness, his office said 27 January 2006.
