(FILES) German President Johannes Rau (L) awards former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev with the Bundesverdienstorden, the order of the Federal Republic of Germany, for his contributions to the German reunification, 07 November, 1999, at the president-s home in the Berlin district of Dahlem. Former German president Johannes Rau, 75, died Friday after a long illness, his office said 27 January 2006.
