MIDEAST-ISRAEL-PALESTINIAN-HAMAS
Aziz Duweik, the new speaker of the Hamas-dominated Palestinian parliament who was sworn in two days ago, works with an unidentified assistant at his office 20 February 2006, in the West Bank city of Ramallah. Duweik ordered a freeze today on all decisions made by outgoing MPs at a meeting last week, which included approval for Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas to appoint members of a new constitutional court. The statement posted on notice boards in the Ramallah-based Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) announced that votes in parliament after last month-s general election would be regarded as null and void.
