Astrid Betancourt, sister of the former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt (portrait in background), a hostage of Colombian leftist rebels since 2002, speaks 23 February 2006 at the Peace memorial in Caen, northwestern France. Astrid launched today, on the fourth anniversary of her sister-s abduction, a new call for the release of FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) hostages. The 43-year-old has been held since February 2002 when she was snatched in the middle of an election campaign in the south of the country, and is part of a group of hostages including politicians and soldiers whom FARC has offered to exchange for the release of 500 imprisoned rebels.
