SWITZERLAND-UN-GABON-EGUINEA-BORDER

President El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba of Gabon (C) and President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea (behind) are seen at the UN office in Geneva, 27 February 2006. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan was to meet with the presidents of Gabon and Equatorial Guinea to try to settle a border dispute tied to potentially huge oil reserves. The west African leaders have tussled for years over three islands in the Gulf of Guinea: Corisco (20 square kilometres/eight square miles), 30-hectare (75-acre) Mbanie and Cocotiers, a rocky outcrop. The surrounding Corisco Bay is tipped as a new oil Eldorado, which has raised the stakes for the two neighbours which are already riding on a black gold boom. AFP PHOTO / CHRISTOPHE BOSSET
