CZECH-GERMANY-HISTORY-COMMEMORATION

Boxes containing the remains of the German Wermacht soldiers, who died during WWII on the territory of the then Bohemia-Moravian Protectorat, or occupied Czechoslovakia, are piled on the ground of the former premises of the Severoceska Armaturka Fitting plant, 21 March 2006 in Usti nad Labem, northern Czech Republic. The cases with the soldiers- remains have been deposited in the hall for three years. The Prague-based firm Pargent had exhumed the remains of German troops in the Czech Republic for the German People-s Association for Care for War Graves since the mid-1990s. Their burial place was to be established at Prague-Stresovice, but the project floundered due to the lack of money. The city mayor Gandalovic told journalists today that the city police will guard the complex with the German bodily remains in order to prevent possible attacks by extremists. AFP PHOTO MICHAL CIZEK
