FILES-SYRIA-POLITICS-ATTAR
(FILES) Najah Al-Attar (R), former Syrian culture minister and deputy chief of Syria-s Palestinian intifadah support association, poses with Iranian President Mohammad Khatami in Tehran 25 April 2001, on the sidelines of a meeting of Islamic countries to back the Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation. Attar was named Syrian vice-president 23 March 2006, the first time a woman is to occupy the post. Attar-s appointment follows the resignation of Abdel Halim Khaddam, who now lives in exile in Paris.
